Taxi Service – Post Number 3340 Promotion and Change of Orders

Marlaina read the missive from Talo and sent her response back to him. While she'd be sorry to see Lane go, she'd never hold anyone's career back. Getting up from her desk Marlaina opened a cabinet in her office and removed the the rank pip and placed it into a small box. After a quick check with Faith Marlaina headed out for Lane's office. When she stepped off the lift the two marines on duty snapped to attention when they spotted the ship's captain. "Is captain Lane busy?"
"No sir he's not," Hendricks said "I'll take you back sir."
Thanking him Marlaina followed the private to Lane's office, "Captain do you have a few minutes?" Marlaina asked walking into his office.
" Of course for you Captain. Did you have that talk with the Major ? Is she reassigning me to be kindergarten platoon commander ?" he joked.
"Actually captain I just received word from the Gibralter about you," Marlaina said taking a seat.
" Whoa ! This is important ain't it ? General Jacksons' the CO there." replied Lane.
"It's very important," Marlaina replied as she slid the box containing the rank pip across the desk to him. "You've been promoted to major and have been called to the Gibralter to take over as the marine commanding officer on the base. While I hate to lose anyone I also will not hold anyone back."
" I'm speechless Captain. Thank you....thank whom ever ! What about security for the Observation deck ? When do I report to Gibralter ? So many questions," Lane responded as a silly school girl might react. Had his dream to command an outpost again come true ?
"General Jackson's sending a shuttle, it should about be here in about an hour. As for the security for the Obversation Deck, Major Carol is going to have to assign someone else to take care of it. You'll still see the crew and the marines you've worked with as remember the Amandora is based from the Gibralter," Marlaina replied "With the promotion comes all rites and duties for it. When General Jackson asked me some time ago about your service aboard this ship I had no Idea he had this planned. But who am I to argue with the brass. Congratulations Major Lane,"
" Captain . . . I've been nothing but trouble since you rescued me off that dead world. But I'm truly going to miss working for you. I hope my replacement can whip these jar heads into shape for you,' Lane replied " I better get to packing that shuttle will be here soon ."
"Major you've not been trouble, I am going to miss you as well," Marliana said getting to her feet. "I'll walk you to the docking port when your ready." Marlaina had already ordered the marine detachment to be at the docking port and the corridores along the way when he left. "The ship is already stopped and awaiting the shuttle."
" Simper Fi Captain Rivers !" Lane replied standing to attention.
"At ease major," Marlaina said as she pinned his new rank pip on his collar. "How long will you need to pack?"
" A few minutes. I came with nothing and I guess I'll leave with same.' he replied as the aroma from her lightly doused perfume invaded his nostrils.
"I am going to miss you, but General Jackson is a fair man, you'll do well there and the ship will be in from time to time," Marlaina said "As for leaving with nothing thats not true, you'll be leaving with the well wishes of the marines onboard along with myself and the command staff."
" Marines don't cry Captain. Thank you for taking me in. " Lane replied now ready to go.
Marlaina led the way out and as she'd ordered the marines aboard were lined up to say goodbye to him. "It was my pleassure major,"
" Farewell Marines .... The next time I see you I hope it is in battle and were kicking butt and taking names." John replied as he saluted those he had served with this length of time. Looking into the shuttle a smile filled his face as he recognized an old pal aboard.
" Don't dally lad, we've got a long way to go," the voice of John's old mate Master Sergeant O'Rourke (npc) summoned. O'Rourke had been promoted an assigned duty on Gibrater some time ago an upon hearing of his old commanders promotion had volunteered to go fetch him.
"Safe trip," Marlaina said .
Lightly saluting her, John entered the shuttle and found his seat. The door to the shuttle then closed just as the shuttle raised up and flew through the hanger bay doors.
